outbreaks, and in somecases,more thanone failingwas identified.
Analysis was carried out on the industrial sector where the outbreak
occurred. Further analyses were carried out on the types of water system
involvedandalsoon the “failings” that contributed to theoutbreaks.

The sector covering27%of the outbreakswas classed as “not specified”,
possibly pointing to the fact the better data collection and investigation
might help reduce this level . It is not an uncommon occurrence however,
particularly in community acquired outbreaks, where finding the source of
theoutbreakhasproved tobeproblematicand in somecases impossible.
Manufacturing linkedoutbreakscouldconceivablybecausedbycooling
towers, hot and coldwater systems and/or by anyother spray creatingwater
basedprocess systems.
