being recorded. As a result, the overall number of cases may be increasing,
despite the possibly improving application of risk reduction procedures and
processes.
The graph below shows the number of cases in the United Kingdom from
2000 to 2010. It shows no obvious indications of a trend of reduction in the
number of cases over that time period.

InSeptember 2011, theHealth and SafetyExecutive tasked theHealth and
Safety Laboratory (HSL) with gathering data on outbreaks of Legionnaires’
disease in Great Britain during the ten years running up to August 2011.
[4] The objective was to identify if there was a range of factors that were
contributing to outbreaks in the UK.
The report used data from 44 separate outbreaks in the UK in the 10
