In 2012 an informative document entitled “Prevention and control of
Legionella
in water systems,” was issued by the Portuguese Quality Institute
/ Ministry of Economy and Employment / Sector Committee for Water
(CS / 04). This document is a contribution to the training / information of
technicians with the responsibility of maintenance and control of artificial
water systems). This document doesn’t have any legal binding value.
Elimination of
Legionella
in contaminated artificial systems is extremely
difficult. Prevention is the key, by correct constructionof systemswith suitable
materials, followed by maintenance of infrastructure and implementation of
control policies.

During the development of this Law Decree, another piece of legislation
was created: determination No. 353-A / 2013 of December 4th setting the
minimum values of flow of fresh air per room, as well as the protection
thresholds and reference conditions for air pollutants inside new trade and
services buildings subject to large interventions and respective evaluation
methods.
