The creation of the Integrated Epidemiological Surveillance Program for
Legionnaires‘ disease has proven to be an asset for the characterization of
this disease in Portugal. The number of notifications has increased every year
(except on 2011), as well as the number of confirmed cases (according to the
case definition according to Circular Normative No: 05 / DEP_ DGS). The
integrated surveillance system is an active system. For the years 2011 and
2012, all notifications VigLab were also notified by the DDO system.
The information used for the graphs presented in this text was kindly
provided by the Directorate General of Health (DGS).
