infectious wastes, according to the required routines in force. However, it
is necessary to have control and supervision in the maintenance companies
to verify that they dispose correctly the filters and that there is no reuse of
them. It is required also to control the training given to the staff for this
task.
Currently, the Coordination of Surveillance in Health (Coordenação de
Vigilância em Saúde) – COVISA, the agency of the Municipal Secretariat of
Health of SãoPaulowhich controls the quality of the air, has less than a dozen
persons to supervise all the buildings of the city of São Paulo, which is an
imprudence in view of the existing risks. However, with the consciousness
of the theme, the tendency is to increase this team and therefore to increase
also the number of irregularities assessed.
With a broader disclosure of the diseases related to indoor
environments, their causes and consequences, the municipal, state, and
federal environmental agencies tend to include more and more in their
permits, the constraints related to the prevention and control. And the
Public Ministry tends to accuse more the irregularities.
As a result, more andmore companies andexecutives shall be considered
administratively, civilly and criminally liable. To avoid this, we need an
active process for management and minimization of the risks, with full
monitoring of the water and air systems in the buildings, in order to avoid
as much as possible the proliferation of
legionella
and, with this, to care
for the health of the employees, customers, visitors and the surrounding
community.
