At this time there is suspicion of bioterrorism, because the United States
had just finished the Vietnam War and the Cold War was in course.
The city of Philadelphia panics, because its inhabitants did not know
whether they were protected or not. Several conventions in town are
canceled; tourists cancel their trips and the economy starts to go on a deep
depression.
At this time, CDC continues to research and other legionnaires pass away.
The researchers begin to wonder why people who were in good health
died and why in the same city? With that, they prepare a plan to conduct
survey among a large number of people who were in the city during the
convention, including patients who were hospitalized and families of those
who had died. The goal was to check all the facts and evidence and try
to understand the common issues to all cases. The biggest question now
was why are some people sick and others are not. The case drawing most
attention was the first Legionnaire who died, because his wife was with him
during all the time and she was not sick at all.
