- SWAB technique:
• Excellent technique for detection and counting of organisms of
environmental surfaces and equipment.This technique is very useful for the
collection in places with porous surfaces, with imperfections, and difficult
access. This technique is more indicated in the case of water sample, when
the volume is not enough for analysis or there is the need of collecting
biofilm. See Figure 03 below.
- PVT technique:
The PVT method consists of a device for culture in the field in the form
of immersion strip using the same specifications of culture medium and acid
treatment as of the ISO 11731-2 method.
This method has several benefits with relation to the method described
by ISO 11731-2. Following are some examples of the benefits of the method:
• Inoculation in Zero Time (TimeZero) –This is very important because
Legionella
starts to develop from the moment of the sample collection (see
Figures 04 and 05), in the “zero” time, that is, it demonstrates the actual
situation of the moment of the collection. The sample collection is made
with 100 mL of sample, a fact that is very important because it is possible to
