Some of these countries have legislation and guidance. There is a wide
variation in cases per million population from 22.1 cases per million in
Denmark, down to no cases per million in Romania and Bulgaria. It is
known that there is certainly legislation and guidance in the Netherlands,
France and Spain as well as in the UK. However, the Netherlands is showing
a level of cases almost fivefold higher than the UK. Looking at the above
figures the following questions could be asked:-
• Why is there no Legionnaires’ Disease in Romania and Bulgaria
• Is it because they do not monitor for it are are they extremely good at
controlling it
• Why is the Netherlands almost five times higher than the UK
• Is theUKbetterarecontrollingandreducingrisk, orare theNetherlands
better at identifying and recording cases of Legionnaires’ Disease
• Why, with legislation and guidance in the Netherlands, France and
Spain, are the number significantly higher that the UK which also has
