LEGIONELLA IN THE VIEW OF SPECIALISTS - page 41

After his death, José Serra (Health Minister at the time), began
working to try to minimize the problem of
Legionella
, which had led to his
friends passing. It was at this time that the Health Ministry presented it’s
new legislation on Indoor Air Quality, with the Ordinance 3523/1998 and
Resolution 176/2000 ANVISA.
Today we have in place the Ordinance 3523/1998 and Resolution
09/2003 that subject to all places with air conditioning system (above 5 TR).
It all started with
Legionella
and oddly enough, its not included in the
Ordinance 3523/1998 and not even in the Resolution 09/2003.
This demonstrates the misconception that still exists about
Legionella
and Indoor Air Quality. These are issues that may be related, but should be
seen in a more clear and distinct form. Confusions can lead people to claim
that air conditioning is the villain in the proliferation of
Legionella
and this
topic should be very carefully stated, not without proper knowledge.
Legionella
was discovered in 1976, it’s been more than 37 years, the
cases multiply and there is much more to be done in order to save lives
threatened by this bacterium that is present in our daily lives.
The
Legionella
issue should be handled by experts on the subject,
because the water treatment as we know it was not created to combat or
minimize
Legionella
. Never confuse safe drinking water with
Legionella
free water, this is not true.
Drinkingwater is for drinking and for this reason there is no control over
the
Legionella
(it promotes respiratory problems) Ordinance in 2914/2011
