Water Management Teams
The first requirement of HACCP-based water system management
is also the most important. A team must be established by the facility
management/owner comprised of individuals to whom responsibility has
been assigned and will be held accountable. Observations of hundreds of
such teams during the past 10 years indicate that if the facility management/
owners have not clearly assigned responsibility and are not demonstrably
willing to hold individuals in the team accountable, then the program will
not be effective.
When Water Management Teams are functioning well, they almost
always develop plans that improve both the safety and the operational
efficiency of their building water systems. The improvements in operational
efficiency often result in substantial cost savings.
Typical Water Management teams by facility type are shown in Table 3.
For categories of facilities in which many buildings are owned or managed
corporately, the best approach is to develop a corporate Water Management
Team to develop a program that can be then adjusted for each site by an on-
site Water Management Team.
