Critical Control Points
Using the hazard analysis summaries and risk characterization of the
facility, Water Management Teams must then decide what hazard control, if
any, must be applied to their building water system.
If the Water Management Team decides that hazard control must be
applied to ensure safety, then it is therefore critical control. The location in
the building water system at which hazard control is applied is called the
Critical Control Point (CCP). Examples of CCPs in building water systems
are cooling tower(s), water heaters and supplemental chlorination injection
points. The word “point” in CCP refers to the location and processing step in
the building water system at which hazard control is applied.
