with the evaluation and monitoring of the quality of the air at indoor air-
conditioned environments.
Anyway, theNational Department of IndoorsAirQuality –Qualindoor,
a division of ABRAVA, forwarded a review project on the Resolution 09
in March of 2013. This proposal was prepared and made available for
consultation to several organizations and professionals of the industry.
The proposal mentions the need of Risk Assessment and tests to verify the
presence of
Legionella
in buildings. If approved, the regulation will be the
first in the Brazilian territory clearly mentioning the bacteria.
But those thinking that the current Brazilian legislation on air
conditioning systems failed while not mentioning the
Legionella
bacteria,
are mistaken.
The bacterium develops in any water system, provided that under the
ideal environmental conditions, and can contaminate people if dispersed
throughaerosol.There isnoconventional air conditioningsystemcontaining
these conditions.
Water deposited on the tray of the air conditioning resulting from the
condensation of the air when in contact with the coil in lower temperatures
is always indicated as a possible focus of contamination. Yes, it is possible.
But if the conditioner tray has the right inclination slope, it will not
occur the accumulation of water when the system is turned off. With the
system off, the temperature at the place is low and it does not favor the
proliferation of the bacteria. In addition, if the proper maintenance is made
in the air conditioning system, the tray will be kept clean.
Even so, if it is the case that the inclination in the tray is not adequate, the
maintenance fails and there is water accumulated in the tray (this situation
