LEGIONELLA IN THE VIEW OF SPECIALISTS - page 162

• water refluxes
• bad hydraulic and temperature controls (important factor for
developing legionellosis
• pathologies on pipes - corrosion and incrustation
The sanitary risk exists for users of the building via possible exposure
to the pollutants and pathogen agents, through ingestion, inhalation
and skin contact:
• ingestion: contamination risk for germs of fecal origin and chemical
compounds from the network
• inhalation: risk of legionellosis
Seeing that the development of
legionella
is favored by a water
temperature between 25ºC and 45ºC, currently the main solution accepted
onAQUA-HQE process tominimize the risk of legionellosis is the control of
water temperature on internal networks, so, it is important that a relatively
high temperature is required in the network. Requiring, for example,
that closed networks of collective hot water are dimensioned to ensure
satisfactory recirculation inall circuits. On the other hand, anextremelyhigh
temperature (over 50ºC) increases the risk of burns, thus, the temperature
control has two concerns: minimize the risk of legionellosis and the risk of
burns, therefore, three basic strands are required in AQUA-HQE:
Maintain optimum temperatures in the networks of hot and cold water
Optimize the design of networks of hot water (identify risk points,
reducing distances between the points of use and the network in a closed
circuit, minimum and maximum speeds of the networks are examples of
measures at different levels in the  AQUA-HQE process.
