Legionella
is discussed practically in all edition of our Greenbuilding
Brazil International Conference and Expo, GBC Brasil constantly supports
events on the topic mentioned above, as well as disseminates technical
standards and regulations about
Legionella
.
In the first quarter of 2013, GBC Brasil initiated action to publicize
topics of sustainable construction through video with a simple language for
the green building community and population in general through social
media.
Legionella
was the first theme addressed by this initiative.
The air quality especially in climate-controlled buildings is key to
preserving the health of occupants, all contamination risks should be
strongly mitigated. Today we have frequently hearing about respiratory
diseases where the focus of contagion were commercial buildings where
the average user is exposure into an unfavorable condition ahead ignorance
of the risks or even difficulty in risk perception. In the case of
Legionella
,
the bacteria can be breathed when water is in spray or aerosol state, like in
shower, car wash, humidifiers, among other.
Although not directly related to the issue of air quality, we know that
mechanical systems aimed at cooling which somehow use water, increases
the risk of the bacteria, because of this, in the movement of sustainable
constructions we can find the approach of
Legionella
in discussions both on
air quality and water treatment.
Supported by the Green Building Council Brasil, the First International
Workshop on
Legionella
in Brazil held on April 16, 2013, highlighted the
importance of ANVISA action and other supervisory bodies to combat the
